Ban Liang / 半两

Ban Liang / 半两, a cast Chinese coin, is an early form of currency from the China during the Qin Dynasty. Emperor Shihuangdi standardized money when he introduced the ban liang 半两 'half tael' (equivalent to 12 铢 zhu) coin. It had a standard weight in the form of a round disc with a square hole.
